After updating from 58.0.1 to 58.0.2 (both 64 bit) this morning, pages are painfully slow to load, as are searches. If I can find a copy of 58.0.1, can I safely removed 58.0.2 and then install 58.0.1. Or does anyone have a fix for this slowness? By slow I mean 10 or more seconds for pages to load that were almost instantaneous before.

hi, are you happening to use avast/avg security software - if so, which version?

Yes, Avast. Version 17.9.2322 Build 17.9.3761.278

do things improve when you update to the 2018 version of avast?

It will be a bit before I can do that. I clone the hard drive before updating most software, so I need to do that first. But the question is, why would just updating Firefox cause this?

avast is injecting a dll filtering network traffic an scripts into the firefox process. since that's proprietary and closed source, it's not possible to tell how that behaves in regards to changes in firefox from the outside, even if they are just minor ones like with the 58.0.2 update: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/58.0.2/releasenotes/

Updated Avast to 18.1.2326. Slowness still there.

avast told us they will fix the issue with a signature update tomorrow: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1438829#c3

Thank you. Guess we'll know soon!

The update to Avast did fix the problem. There's still about a 1-2 second delay on getting to any website or search just after Firefox is first started, but that's been going on for a while now and nothing like before the Avast fix.
