I'm currently using the "switch to this tab" feature which automatically brings this page "http://webim.dwebsite.com/webim/operator/users.php" to the front when the page has an alert/notification. This works beautifully and I'm trying to apply this to others in my company , but it seems to only work for me. Can you explain how I can make this work or what I have enabled that maybe they don't? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, could you please explain what the switch to this tab feature is as do not know if it is a program or a extension..

"Switch to this tab" is a Firefox setting under site permissions.

Hi, thanks and fast. Did the tick mark come out of the box when you were taking the screenshot ? The site is listed as connection not secure which may or may not be the issue.

How many computers are you talking about that will not accept this ?

How are they set up to get the alerts ?

Is this setting applied to each system ?

Please expand on the setup as much as possible, Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean about the "tick mark". The screenshot is from my system and it is working correctly. I've tried it on 3 other systems and it is not working. They have their alerts and this option set to "allow". They have my settings copied as best they can, but it only works for me. The website has a small alert window that appears when there is a new visitor. When this happens, my Firefox browser automatically changes to display that tab. This is the effect I'm attempting to recreate for my co-workers. Thank you for your help!

Hi Dave, I never noticed that permission before.

When you mention an alert/notification, are they JavaScript alerts or do they go through Firefox's notifications feature?

I created an extremely annoying test page that pops a JavaScript alert 3 seconds after focus leaves the page (event listener on 'blur'):

https://www.jeffersonscher.com/temp/focus-tab-by-prompt.html

The permission works for that page (and I am happy this is not the default behavior!).

I haven't tried with a web/desktop notification.

(Note to self: focus-tab-by-prompt is used for this permission in source.)

Honestly, I'm not sure about javascript. This is exactly what my screen looks like when it alerts me.

Yes, that looks exactly like a JavaScript alert. It's called that because a script runs this function:

alert('Text goes here');

Do your colleagues get the blue dot on the tab indicating that there is an alert waiting -- that's what I see on my test page tab?

Ok, any idea how I can recreate that action? Or even a cross platform addon? I thought for sure there would be one, but I can't word my search right. Maybe I don't know the lingo.

Hi Dave, if you revoke the permission for the site, I would expect that you would get the blue dot and the prompt with the permission box on the next alert.

I don't know why a user would not get EITHER the blue dot OR the tab being made active, unless they blocked the alert somehow.

They get the blue dot, or I think maybe it's a small blue triangle. But the javascript box only has the option to click "OK". I'm still looking for addons but I know I just can't get the wording right. It must be something like "tab force focus".

I don't think an add-on is needed for this, but maybe there are version differences or setting differences. Is everyone on Firefox 60?

Everyone is on Firefox 60 / 64bit as far as I know.
