Since Updating to Firefox 63 I cannot check my Shopping Cart

more options

Since updating to Firefox 63 I have found that when I shop at one of my usual shopping sites I can place objects in my shopping cart but I cannot access the cart itself. I click on the button but the usual subscreen that appears against a greyed out transparent layer over the website page fails to appear? I have tried accessing the site in Safe Mode but the same thing happens so it can't be an add-on issue...

Note: Windows users should download the ActiveX for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the ActiveX.

Make sure you are not blocking content.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

One issue that seems more common lately is Firefox's Tracking Protection feature. When it is blocking content in a page, a shield icon will appear at the left end of the address bar next to the padlock icon. This article has more info on managing this feature: Tracking Protection {web link}

Thanks for these suggestions.

I have updated Flash player and it has made no difference, I'm afraid, and I tried disabling tracking protection for that site and it has not helped either. I have already tried accessing the site in Safe Mode and it did not help.

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

  • Clear the Cache and
  • Remove Cookies

Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to. You may also lose any settings for that website.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Did this help?

While you are in safe mode;

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

Thanks for this. I automatically clear cookies and the cache after each browsing session and disabling hardware acceleration did not affect the issue, unfortunately.

What do you mean by 'cannot access'?

It might be that the shopping cart is stored in the cookies.

Usually you click on a button in the top right hand corner which displays the cart icon and the number of items that have been placed in it. When you do that the site adds a dark grey filter over the site page and a smaller window appears in frame with the shopping cart details and you progress from there.

After the update you click on the cart button (which does register when items have been added) but nothing happens .

It's pretty standard that items in a shopping cart are stored in cookies but I don't see what effect that has on continuing a current shopping session? My browser clears everything when I have finished browsing/shopping/whatever, it's all completed and old business at the point?

Ironically, it still works perfectly in the latest build of Pale Moon, however..

Maybe it would be worth going back a version or two as it worked fine until the upgrade?

You can try if you want. However, some of the data files get changed between one version and the next. So going back a version may not be compatible.

What you could do is to install the older version in its own folder and create a new user profile for that version.

You could then use sync to share the data between them.

I'd prefer not to but nobody seems to have a solution, otherwise I'll just use Pale Moon instead. It seems like a better alternative in a a lot of ways since Quantum.
