My desktop PC is my main computer and has the master bookmarks file. I have tried in the past to use Firefox sync and it changes my format on the desktop. I use the bookmarks toolbar and have it setup using folders with related individual bookmarks in that folder. When I sync bookmarks those folders are gone and individual bookmarks appear. For now this is what works the best for me between the desktop and my laptops. I save a backup of the bookmarks and import that on my laptops, then do a restore using the desktop backup file.

I am trying to find out how to do this on my Android phone.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I had used X marks and just loved it, but they stopped that project and others I have tried just did not work like I wanted.

Note that if you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync while performing maintenance/repair efforts to bookmarks in the Firefox profile folder. Best is to reconnect one device at the time and wait for the initial Sync to finish before connecting another device once you have fixed the bookmarks.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page
in case errors are reported close and restart Firefox and retry

I was only logged on the desktop to sync and as soon as I logged in syncing started and created havoc with my existing bookmarks toolbar. Fortunately I made a backup file before I started.
