Hi readytoquit, I'm sorry to hear about this problem.
I know this sounds like a cliche, but have you already tried shutting down your Mac and starting it up again, to make sure any file locks are freed and updates completed?
Is the only change that your bookmarks are missing, or are there other changes which could indicate a larger problem?
Sometimes problems with bookmarks disappearing are related to one of these issues:
(1) Incomplete "Refresh"
Do you see a new folder on your Mac desktop named Old Firefox Data?
If so, hang onto that, we might need it.
After a Refresh, the Bookmarks menu should still be normal, but the Bookmarks Toolbar is hidden. You can turn that back on using either:
- (menu bar) View > Toolbars
- right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank spot on the tab bar (or right-click the "+" button)
- in Customize mode > Toolbars button (see: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars)
Once you see the Toolbar list, click Bookmarks Toolbar. Any improvement?
(2) Data file problem
The following article describes a message that indicates problem with the file that stores your bookmarks. Have you see this message?
