Using Thunderbird and Go Daddy webmail. Attempting to archive email but when I do the email's disappear. This is an IMAP account.
Archive settings are set to keep messages in "Archives" Folder on info@w.......t.com
When i select items in Thunderbird and click archive, they are gone. I cannot find them in the web interface or in thunderbird.
IMAP account has an archive folder with subfolders as labeled as years inside of it.

If this is the folder designated as Archive folder in your account settings, then your archived messages should be there.
Please see the attached image. There are archive folders which is how the thunderbird settings look (something about archive folder organized by year) is the drop down. I have those on the IMAP web version but after archiving, all of these folders are empty. Ive looked in each folder and there is nothing in there.
Hi Thanks for the image - it helps to see what you see! Is that image of the Thunderbird folders - or is that your online Webmail? When you do the Archive process, are you in TB or webmail? My TB Archives folders are only available in the Thunderbird client, not online, but your setup may be different. I archive by right click and choose Archive in the TB inbox, and the messages move from Inbox to the local TB Archives folder. They are then not visible from my webmail. My TB Archives folder has a unique icon, where your just look like regular folders. You can see the 'email with a belt around them' icon in the support page that christ1 referred you to. I'm thinking the folders you are looking at may not be the TB Archives. Agnes
Thank you for the information.
The image is of the Webmail online. The thunderbird folders look identical with regard to number, name structure, ect.
The setting that i have on thunderbird says to save them in archive folders by year on the IMAP server. As opposed to a local folder the option is selected showing my email address.
I used the same process, select emails, click archive. They are removed from the inbox/another folder, but then disappear. I cannot find them on the IMAP server or the local folders.
Hi Yes, you have slightly different settings. Mine are local only, so I'm sorry I can't be much help. You say the folders look the same as each other online and in TB - but TB Archives folder is called Archives (plural not singular) and has that special archive icon on the top level folder. That helps identify that that folder tree is where the act of archiving should send the messages. It seems part of the process is working - if a new subfolder with the appropriate year (or month) appears automatically when you archive a message. Perhaps change the setting to Monthly, and archive an unimportant message to test that the subfolder appears? Then someone else can perhaps comment on why the message does not also arrive in the archive folder. I hope one of the other volunteers here can assist further. Agnes
Thank you i will try that. At this point i am also attempting to find the files that were already archived.
In the webmail image, the 'Archives' folder does not look like a default folder, so this suggests it is a folder you created. The reason godaddy webmail does not have an archives folder as default is because this is a separate thing which you purchase to use. https://www.godaddy.com/email/email-archiving
Basically they seem to think archiving seems to mean removal of emails out of account to a type of backup solution.
You have not mentioned whether you have the correct settings in Thunderbird.
- right click on imap mail account and select 'Settings
- Select 'Copies & folders'
- Under 'Message Archives'
- Select 'Keep message archives in :
- Select 'Other' and choose 'Archives on email address'
- click on 'OK
- Restart Thunderbird.
Create an email and send to yourself. then select email and click on 'Archive'
Does it appear in the 'Archives' folder as seen in Thunderbird?
I would suggest you create an 'Archives' folder in 'Local Folders' mail account and make sure the email account settings have all folders set to download full emails. If you can read messages in offline mode then you have a full copy downloaded. Set Account Settings to archive to the 'Archives' folder in 'Local Folders'. Restart Thunderbird and test archiving an email.
