Sky have declared Thunderbird to be obsolete and out-of-date and will no longer support it.
This has caused all my e-mail accounts to stop working. I therefore either have to drop Thunderbird (with great reluctance) or find another e-mail provider (also reluctantly). Staying with Thunderbird is my preference even though I probably have hundreds of accounts to change and/or advise of my new addresses.
Please advise what e-mail supplier works well with Thunderbird ??
Without having to buy their hardware !!

Sky may say TB is no longer supported by them, if it ever was, but where do they say it is obsolete and out-of-date? Are your settings up to date?

The main problem may be that Sky uses Yahoo mail infrastructure, which is not the most admired service, but that doesn't mean you can't, or shouldn't, use TB.
What I wrote is exactly what Sky told me + my accounts stopped working - they were properly configured and had been working for more thsan 10 years. Sky told me why they had terminated my accounts. Sky is NOT an options.
Please where do I go in the UK for my e-mails ??
Please advise ??

Thank you very much
I also have this problem and SKY Yahoo mail are indeed advising that they will not work with Thunderbird, insultingly describing it as obsolete. Up until yesterday I had used Sky mail with Thunderbird without difficulty for 10 years. Now I have a Sky Mail account and can log in and receive/send mails successfully. However this is less than satisfactory as incoming mails cannot be saved to where I elect on my pc. To do this I have to print it, scan it and save it. This shortcoming makes Sky Mail more or less useless to me and in my opinion a poor mail programme. When I try to add Sky mail to my accounts in Thunderbird I am advised that it cannot be done as Thunderbird appears to hit a brick wall having either the username, password and or server settings rejected. Any assistance for a work around would be appreciated.

When Sky says they don't offer support for TB, I take that to mean they won't offer any advice on using TB, but I would be surprised if they deliberately block accounts from being set up in TB. Use the settings listed in the 'Other email apps' section:
incoming IMAP server: imap.tools.sky.com on port 993, SSL/TLS security, authentication = normal password, User Name = email address.
outgoing SMTP server: smtp.tools.sky.com on port 465, SSL/TLS security, authentication = normal password, User Name = email address.
They also state here: "If you access your emails via an app, such as Outlook or an email app on your phone, you’ll need to go to Sky Yahoo Mail Sign In online to set your preferences."
Hi sfhowes. Thanks for the advice. I have tried same but to no avail. Same error message from Thunderbird.

Mine has stopped working as well. This is the mail I received from Sky -
"We’ve noticed that you may be accessing your Sky.com email on your mobile, tablet or other device using an out-of-date version of an email application such as Apple Mail, Outlook or Windows Live Mail.
To ensure a better and more consistent experience for all our customers, out-of-date versions of these email applications will no longer be supported by Sky.com email from 14/11/2019.
This means you will need to update your email application to the latest version, which will include new features, enhanced security standards and better usability.
If you decide not to update your email application, you will no longer be able to access your Sky.com email using this method from 14/11/2019.
However, you will still be able to access your Sky.com email via Sky.com
To verify this email and get all the help you need, please head to sky.com and click on the section titled ‘Help accessing Sky mails via email apps’ on the homepage.
Please note you do not need to reset or change your password for your Sky.com email address.
Kind regards,
Sky "
Anyone got any idea what to do and if Thunderbird can be set up to continue to read my Sky/Yahoo mail.
In Sky mail use their password generator to generate a new 16 digit password. Write this down as it will appear only once and you will need it again. Enter this new password into Thunderbird Do not close the password generator until you are completely finished as it will all go wrong if you do. Keep the password safe as Thunderbird has a habit of looking for newly used passwords when you go to send a mail. Through Thunderbird or say Mailwasher is the only way I would use Sky Yahoo mail as I have very serious security/spying concerns about it. I have added some attachments which show clearly that it requires you allow its "partners" free access to your device and that it does not allow you opt out of this despite promising to do so. I consider it an all but useless programme as you cannot save incoming or outgoing mails from within in it to your computer. To save a mail you either have to print it then scan it and save it or forward it to gmail ( in Thunderbird ) and then save it from within Thunderbird. This is time consuming, expensive and environmentally unfriendly. Should you wish to use an additional programme such as Maiilwasher you will need to use Sky's password generator to generate a different password for it. Ridiculous you now have different passwords to access through Sky, Thunderbird and Mailwasher. I hope this helps. Sorry I can't send the attachments as they are too big. I will try and crop them tomorrow and put them up.

Hard to say if Sky will 'allow' TB, as their list of supported desktop clients includes only 3 programs (Apple Mail, Outlook 365 or Outlook 2019, and W10 Mail), and TB is not on the list of 'no longer supported'.

I don't have a Sky account to test, so I advise users to just go ahead and add their accounts, despite the vague guidance from Sky.
I have changed my sky accounts to Yahoo - least technical changes !! But this way I get to keep TB without any issues !!
I did as hitbit suggested and all seems to work OK. Thanks very much.
Hi John, Glad you got it sorted. Here are the matters of concern I mentioned. Sorry I had to manually crop them so they would upload here but they can be viewed in full in Yahoo's terms and conditions. As they clearly show, Yahoo wants free unrestricted access to your device for their partners and their opt out option does not allow you to opt out. I have raised these matters with Sky and am awaiting their reply before deciding to remain with them or seek my Tv BB and phone services elsewhere.

Sky are alone in blocking Thunderbird, neither BTINTERNET nor YAHOO are blocking it.
They have even barred Outlook 2016.
I have set up forwarding of my sky accounts to my icloud accounts which I can view in Thunderbird.
So I can keep my sky addresses that I have had for years.
Sky has disabled the app password generator, so it's recommended to use the Yahoo servers and OAuth2 authentication:
