I believe you can adjust browser.urlbar.suggest.searches in about:config and it'll fix that. There are other things you can tweak in about:config if you search urlbar

Maybe this is sufficient?: hamburger menu -> [gear]Options -> Search : choose the second option "Add search bar in toolbar"
