Metamask addon shows blank window

When trying to open the Metamask addon it only shows the pop-up window blank. I've been in contact with Metamask support, showed them the background logs and they say the problem seems to be local. Hoping to find help here.

It looks that this extension needs to download some files from internet and fails to achieve this.

I see these permissions listed on the Add-ons webstite. 

permissions: [storage, unlimitedStorage, clipboardWrite, http://localhost:8545/, https://*.infura.io/, activeTab, webRequest, *://*.eth/, notifications, file://*/*, http://*/*, https://*/*, *://connect.trezor.io/*/popup.html]

Did you check the Network Monitor as well, possibly in the Browser Console (XHR) ?
