Password managers (specifically LastPass) do not work with the newest version of Firefox on Android. LastPass support confirmed the problem was with the new Firefox version.

I would like this to be fixed. I really need to be able to use autofill.

Hi

Firefox for Android has its own password manager that syncs with your Firefox Account. On tops of this we hope to have support for the LastPass add-on soon in line with plans to make more add-ons available.

I am aware Firefox has it's own password manager, but I want to keep my passwords seperate from my Firefox sync for security reasons.

Why does the new Firefox not work with the LastPass app like the previous Firefox version did? Was there any downside to retain that functionality?

Hi

Were you using a LastPass add-on in Firefox previously?

On Desktop, I use the Firefox Add-on.

On Android, there is no Firefox Add-on, so I use the LastPass android app which has worked perfectly with all previous Firefox on Android versions. The LastPass app use two methods to autofill: Android's native autofill service and an overlay. Both of these worked with previous Firefox on Android versions, but now neither work.

This will be an issue for LastPass to look into and resolve.

LastPass' devs confirmed it was a problem with the new version of Firefox for Mobile, as other password managers also no longer work with the new Firefox version.

The new Firefox for Android does work with most password managers. However, LastPass has not yet implemented support for the autofill API that is used in Firefox. To my knowledge they are aware and working on addressing this issue too...

Same problem here. Lastpass works fine in Chrome and now broke in auto update of Firefox 79 on Android.

Trying so hard not to use Chrome but Firefox keeps pushing me back. And don't blame it on Lastpass thats lame since it was working fine in previous version of Firefox and works fine in other browsers.

Come on Firefox get your act together. No wonder you keep losing ground.

Having exact same issue. LastPass worked on previous versions. With the new version not working, I'm more likely to change browser before I change password manager.

Also having trouble, lastpass is asking to scroll to make the URL visible. Is that what you're experiencing as well? Thought it was an issue with the bottom toolbar... Hope that gets fixed soon. There are two types of bugs - the ones that are annoying, but endurable, and the ones that are complete roadblocks. That one is clearly one of the latter :/

Is this issue something we can expect to be resolved sooner rather than later? As others have said, this is a major roadblock and make Firefox near unuseable for me.

I have this issue too. Regarding them supposedly not using the API, they do have the option to set it as the auto fill (there's a toggle to enable both the old method and the new auto fill API) and this used to work until the latest update. And it still does work in other browsers including your own Firefox Focus. And other apps.

As for the comment about Firefox Sync, LastPass fills into any app, not just browsers.

I was just forced to upgrade to Firefox for Android. I never asked for the upgrade. It just did it. Now, I'm lost. Everything is different and password autofill doesn't work. I'm so ticked. My sync account is working everywhere else and all the accounts/passwords seem to be in there, synced, but it won't autofill the forms. It used to. This is a major pain in the ass and needs fixed pronto. Working on a mobile device is constraining enough and Firefox rescued me from that, however, you just shoved me overboard again. My frustration is off the scale.

I can tell that this is the most annoying thing I have ever had with Firefox (the second one is missing Downloads button). Honestly if there is something convincing me to change browser, this is it. Please resolve this asap, I like Firefox. Thanks

just download firefox from f-droid with bitwarden. it works.

@theconcit, @Tali, @itraitor: I have the same issue and its super annoying. However the original question was about password managers so I believe this is worth its own thread. Didn't find it yet, though.

Edit: posts about the non-working autofill:

Please upvote to get the attention it deserves. Hard times for Firefox right now, but this needs to be fixed.

Edit 2: this is the completely wrong place for bug reports. I filed a bug

Here was the response I got from LastPass regarding this issue:

"Got an update from the development team that Firefox for android is not supported anymore. Please try using any other browser like Chrome or Opera."

If it's not fixed soon, I'm afraid that's what I'm gonna do.

I basically received the exact same response from LastPass that jharristosii quoted, with the added note that the issue is related to "Updated Firefox policies affecting all password managers."

It seems like it's about time to start looking around for a new mobile browser.

And how is it possible that it is still working on the desktop version? It does not make sense.

That's SUPER strange. Lastpass just responded to reviews on Google Play that they're working on a fix to be available "later this year". That would be the opposite of the here cited support information by LastPass stating Firefox for Android is no longer supported!

Keep up Rating LP on Google Play accordingly I'd say^^
