I have installed Thunderbird (TB) 31.8.0 and migrated my old emails from Outlook to TB successfully.

When I upgraded TB to 78.0 by installing successive upgrades, I was blocked from the btinternet.com server: version 78.0 did not want to know, it kept accusing the BT server of dropping the connection. How do I stop this happening? Or do I have to wait for a re-issue of version 78? I see there are lots of issues with this release.

I have reverted to 31.8 and will try successive upgrades again, one by one until I find the latest one that still works.

Is your BT account a BT Yahoo account? If so, they recommend(ed) you change to Yahoo settings:

imap.mail.yahoo.com on 993 or pop.mail.yahoo.com on 995, smtp.mail.yahoo.com on 465; SSL/TLS, OAuth2 authentication, User Name = email address.

https://www.bt.com/help/email/bt-yahoo-update-settings

But now I see they are migrating from Yahoo to BT Mail:

https://community.bt.com/t5/Email/Thunderbird-email-client-fails-to-connect-to-mail-server/m-p/2029495#M79439

In that case, the settings are:

mail.btinternet.com on 993 (IMAP) or 995 (POP), 465 for SMTP; SSL/TLS, normal password authentication, User Name = email address.

I'm not sure which to use - the soon-to-be-updated Yahoo settings or the new BT settings.
