The machine name ZBook-17-G2-Tumbleweed is not showing in Sync Tabs. Firefox has lost all my tabs a few time in the past 2 weeks and when I opened the sync tab to bring the tabs back the machine name is not there and all my open tabs are gone.

Tabs are gone again today... I'm glad I didn't clear my history last night.  ;-(

I noticed when logged into Win 7 (ZBook-17-G2) I cannot see the synced tabs for the Win 7 name, but I do see the synced tabs for my linux (ZBook-17-G2-Tumbleweed) and vice versa. So if my tabs are lost in Win 7 I would be SOL!!!

Why can I not see the tabs for the computer that I'm currently logged into? If I'm logged into Win 7, the name should be showing in the sync tab so that I can recover my tabs right?

Try the Firefox version from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your OpenSUSE Linux distribution (distributionID: openSUSE).

I don't think it's a browser version issue, more of a sync issue. I'm running Tumbleweed, Leap 15.2, Win 7, and Win 10, they all are showing the same issue. If I'm logged into Win7, the Win7 machine name is not showing in the Sync Tab for me to recover the lost tabs, but if I log into another computer, I can see the tabs for the Win7 machine.

I am running the official version in both Window environments and they have the same issue, the current logged in machine name is not showing in the Sync Tab to recover.

Let me ask you a questions... Do you see the name of the computer that you are logged into in your Sync Tab?

You can only see Synced tabs from other connected devices and not from the device you currently use. If you still see them on another device then bookmark them.

You can install the About Sync extension in Firefox 72 and newer on desktop to check what data is stored on the Sync server via the about:sync page provided by this extension.

Close and restart Firefox to access the about:sync page added by this extension (see the about:about page for possible about pages).

The day the tabs were gone the sync process had already ran after I opened the browser and saw only the 1 tab. I then switched to another machine, but it was only showing the 1 tab for the machine that lost the tabs. Tabs gone again...

If the sync doesn't work that way then if I only 1 computer what would be the point of syncing?

Did you see the comments in the bug? I think this Sync logic needs work.

There was an update to Firefox in openSUSE Tumbleweed and guess what happened... Tabs gone again, but this time I had them bookmarked.  ;-/

This issue been pretty consistent for the past updates.

I boot up today and guess what happened again.... TABS ARE GONE AGAIN!!! ;-(( So glad I back them up a few days ago, but this is clearly a session issue. I was just fine last night before going to bed. Sync would help, but it's already to late because without prompting me Sync has already foolishly synced my current session with no tabs to my other laptops. I notice lately that there is a prompt everyday for the Primary Password when opening the browser even after clearing my browser cache I get a prompt. This is somewhat how Sync should work. If there was at least 1 prompt asking do I want to sync, I could have logged onto my other laptop or even boot into Win7 and send the tabs to my openSUSE session!

Here is what the add-on about:sync shows...

from https://sync-1-us-west1-g.sync.services.mozilla.com/1.5/158371647/storage/tabs, last modified at Tue Dec 15 2020 07:21:56 GMT-0500 (Eastern Standard Time)

Already synced with no tabs!

I logged into my Win 10 and saw that sync has already done it's damn job and synced with just the 3 tabs! ;-(( Again, if there was at least 1 prompt before this damn process ran I could have saved my tabs from another computer! ;-((

Are you using both OS versions with the same Firefox profile or does each has its own profile ?

Try the Firefox version from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution to see if that version behaves better.

You can create a backup of sessionstore.jsonlz4 or use a session manager extension.

1 profile on all computers. I'm currently running 83.0 (64-bit) from the repo, looks like 84 is the version from the download.

Why not, nothing else to loose, but bookmarks.  ;-/

Sharing a profile between multiple operating system isn't a good idea because Firefox checks what installation path last used a profile and will do a profile reset that can cause all kinds of issues, especially if Firefox doesn't close properly. Best is to use separate profiles and use Sync.

Nah, I've been doing it this way for sometime now and the only issue is my tabs disappear frequently on Tumbleweed only. Never had an issue with Firefox between Windows and Linux on 4 laptops plus a Macbook Pro(wife the apple head). Thanks to your suggestion I'm now running 83 and 84 on Tumbleweed and whats good about it is that my BFF Sync now sees the different versions as different devices and I can now see my machine (Tumbleweed) in Sync. I can now share tabs between the browser versions like a backup.
