gContactSync for Thunderbird
Is gContactSync likely to be modified to work with the latest version of Thunderbird? For the moment I have copied my Google contacts to the Address Book, but would dearly like to have the two synchronised as before!
Or has the developer of this excellent add-on retired or decided he/she does not want to play any more?
Chosen solution
From the main window, open Cardbook in a new tab from the Tools menu. Press Alt if the Menu Bar with Tools is hidden. See picture.

Use TbSync/Provider for CalDAV & CardDAV for Google Contacts (and calendars). Before adding the account, double-click extensions.dav4tbsync.googlesupport to true in Options/General/Indexing/Config. editor.

CardBook is another option.
Many thanks for the advice, but I tried both of these and found them too complex for an old fool like me. Cardbook helped me to import the contacts file, but I could not figure out how to have two-way updating of the Google contacts and Address book.
Is gContactSync to be permanently non-available for Thunderbird 78.9.1?
In CardBook, click the 3-bar menu icon, Address Book, New Address Book, Remote, Google, enter your User Name (gmail address) and password. Cookies must be accepted in TB Options/Privacy & Security for the OAuth2 authentication to proceed.
I don't know if or when gContactSync will be updated for 78.
Sorry - but I can't get to the first requirement. I cannot see a '3-bar menu icon' and if I click on the 3-dot icon I just get the option to remove. Image of initial screen of Cardbook attached.

Thank you very much. Sorry to be so silly - to select the wrong start page! I was a computer professional for 30+ years, but that was 20+ years ago and the software has got much more obtuse since my day!
