All of a sudden all my new messages are marked as read the moment they get downloaded in Thunderbird. ie. Yesterday it wasn't doing that and this morning it did.

I already double checked the 'mark as read' settings, but that one is disabled completely. It also marks it as read the moment it downloads the message, so no 5 second delay.

I also changed the password to exclude a potential other mail program reading it.

TB version: 78.12.0 OS: Win 10 (up to date) Protocol: pop3

Is this a bug in the new version, or some kind of index corruption? Any help would be appreciated.

getting mail on your phone for the same account? That accounts for about 95% of those making similar complaints.

Already discounted that by changing the email password. Apart from that I'm only using Thunderbird or, in rare cases, the ISP provided web interface.

I have the same problem on my laptop. Switched phone off to ensure this was not causing the problem, still the same. Additional information - On my laptop I collect emails from several accounts, all pop3 from the same email servers. Only 1 account is affected in this way. When I watch as new mails are downloaded they are in bold - then change almost instantaneously to read (not Bold). Can't find any differences in 'Settings'.

This problem occurred on my Windows 10 today.

Until yesterday it was fine. Today it started marking read all messages on arrival.

I do not even touch them.

I have few accounts set and this does not happen on all of them, but at least two are affected.

All accounts are getting mail using POP3 so status of messages on serer should not affect this. After all all devices connected to these mail accounts do not get mail automatically so they also do not affect message statuses.

I turned off automatic message read markings. Did not help.

I have only two plugins: CardBoard and Provider for Google Calendar. Does not help to turn them off.

I even run Thunderbird in troubleshoot mode, and even that does not help.

I do not have BitDefender, or any other antivirus program other than Windows Defender.

All I can remember that I changed settings to automatically set as read messages to two seconds after open, but I cannot tell if this behavior occurred after or before that. However if I set it to 9876 seconds it does not change a thing. Even when I turn off automatic read marking it does not help.

Basically, whatever I tried did not help. It keeps setting all messages as read at the moment they are downloaded.

As I installed this PC three weeks ago, I had quite recent version. I did updated to latest but that did not help either.

Current version is 91.5.1, Build ID 20220120011414

Any hint what should I try more is welcome.
