Thunderbird updates
I have an installation of Thunderbird on an HP desktop and a Surface Pro. Both installations have automatic updates enabled, and if I click on "check for updates", I get a return message that the latest version is installed. The problem is that Thunderbird is currently released stable version 91.x; and both machines in question are running 78.x. I don't know why they have not updated to current version. I am a little nervous about forcing a new install. I can copy the installed profile folder from the roaming folder, and paste it back in once the new installation is complete, but I am worried if the jump from 78 to 91 will be incompatible to the files after upgrading. Any thoughts as to why Thunderbird has "frozen in time"; and any considerations while attempting the upgrade?

TB 78.x does not update to version TB91.x.x. You have to uninstall version TB78.x.x., download version TB91.x.x. from site https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/ Advice: Make a backup of emails, calendars and contacts in case you keep them locally.
The update to 91 that is generated within TB, as opposed to a manual installation, is being deployed gradually starting this week. Only a small fraction of TB users will see this, so that any update bugs can be detected and corrected before wide deployment.
I would advise against doing a manual update unless you are comfortable managing separate profiles for 78 and 91. Many users have 'jumped the gun' and had issues with calendars and address books, add-ons etc.
