How do I stop emails from opening up in separate tabs

more options

I am trying to figure out how to stop Thunderbird from creating a tab every time I open an email. All of the advice articles I've seen on the topic says to open Options/Display/Advanced in the tools menu, but I don't see Options. I see Prefences and Account Settings, but they don't Display.

Chosen solution

Look in tools>preferences>general and scroll down right side pane until you see Reading & Display. The setting is beneath that title.
