A dis-continued e-mail keeps trying to connect to thunder bird. How can I remove the e-mail from thunderbird all-together?

How is it attempting to connect? I will assume this is an old email account. You should be able to remove by - going to tools>accountsettings - highlight the account to be removed - scroll down a bit further to 'Account Actions' and click that menu and select to delete account.
