The smooth scrolling seems to be a problem with just a few web sites that I visit - like something is going on in the background (Snoopware?). But my biggest gripe is that Firefox isn't shutting down properly and additional pop-ups just don't pop-up when needed. Before 3.6.0 I could count the "well this is embarrassing.." messages I'd received on just one hand, but now I get it every couple of hours. I'm seriously thinking of switching back to the Dark Side (MS Explorer). Finally, I used to be able to run 2 or more firefox sessions in tandem, but not any more - it refuses to open more than one at a time. Currently running 3.6.6 and hoping this gets sorted quickly.

Another problem is it keeps switching to offline mode automatically where when I loose my wifi for a few seconds - then I have to go and manually reset to non-offline mode. Finally I used to be able to run 2 or more firefox sessions in tandem, but not any more - it refuses to open more than one at a time. Currently running 3.6.6 and hoping this gets sorted quickly.
I have the same problems as most of the above comment and what really frustrates me is how 'LONG' it takes for firefox 3.6.6 to open up.
I can click on it and walk away to work and it still hasn't opened up. A slight exaggeration but you get what I mean.
What's up with that? I love firefox but since this update it really sucks...
On certain sites it's so slow that I log off just out of frustration.
Can someone help?????
I have a same problem for firefox 3.6.6 with Vista 32 operation.
Same here for FF 3.6.6 with Windows 7. Working with Xampp and after about every other 10 refreshes FF hangs.
I've tried updating everything. This happens on all three of my computers, running windows 7 and XP.
The sites I mainly use that experience this is the BBC website whenever I get to a page with flash video or youtube.
We'll I've lost my patience with it and have started downloading an old 3.5.10 version from www.oldapps.com. If that fails then I'll be turning to the Dark Side permanently!
What happened to the "If it ain't broke don't fix it?". Perhaps they've employed some ex-Microsoft people,
At risk of sounding repetitive, Firefox freezing my computer is a non-starter. I have stopped using Firefox. Sadly I have been using Firefox since its early betas before 1.0 was released. I can put up with a lot but when my whole computer freezes *regularly* because of Firefox I cannot justify its use any longer.
In case someone is looking into this and wants to propose some suggestions on things to try I'll repeat what I have done to isolate the problem...
Windows 7 with all Windows updates applied, Firefox 3.6.6, all addins disabled. Computer (*not* just Firefox) freezes 2-4 times a day. Sometimes it will just unfreeze after 30 seconds to 5 minutes. Beyond 5 minutes I reboot. Since I have stopped using Firefox (went to Chrome) my computer has not frozen at all. Nearly all of the time the only application running is Firefox -- nothing else running other than the usual bazillion background processes. To be clear *nothing* is crashing just freezing the entire system.
Interestingly, I was wondering if the CPU usage of Firefox was stealing all the cycles from everything else... hence the computer freezing. What I did is run Task Manager all the time, sorted by CPU usage -- hoping to see something interesting. Firefox *never* froze when running task manager. I had task manager open for close to a week solid. Within hours of shutting down task manager the computer froze again.
Anything else I should try? What should I look for? I am willing to help debug but *someone* has to give some direction here.
I am having the same problem. Firefox just quits working and I have to restart to reconnect. Has anyone figured out how to stop this from happening?
Arrghh! As soon as the 3.6.6 was downloaded, it completely crashed my system. Firefox can't even open so that I can disable add-ons. Without any phone support for guidance, I am trashing Fire Fox once and for all!
Weeks of TRASH = FIREFOX 3.66
All three of my computers have been totally worthless since I upgraded to FF3.66. Each are built/configured differently. Each has a different OS. Each has all the above problems. Crashes constantly, RAM & CPU usage on a Q9650 is always near 100%. After screwing around for days I finally came here and found out that I was among a very large and upset group of users. With the last few upgrade I've had minor problems with my selection of add-ons Firefox disabled them for a later fix. I found a new DL today, 3.67 so I installed it figuring the problem was addressed. After installation of 3.67 it still says it's 3.66??
I went to their site to find help from them and couldn't get anyplace until I came here and read about my problem. Thanks for giving me a clear head so I could find a good solution.
My solution was to remove all Mozilla/Firefox products and then install other browsing options. It felt funny because for the first time in years I had to use Microsoft Internet Explorer to find other options. My computer is problem free and fast as usual now.
I wonder how many other users have abandoned them due to this BS?? I for one will probably stick with my new choices now.
YES, Weeks of TRASH = FIREFOX 3.66
Firefox hangs when first opened ever since I upgraded to 3.6.6. Hasn't gotten better since upgraded to 3.6.7
Same problem and 3.6.7 has not solved this for me (WinXP sp3). Crashed twice this morning immediately after upgrade installed.
Vista Home 32, fully updated, Firefox 3.6.7...freezing one a day at least. Mouse stop working, then I realize that every resource is unavailable, task manager too. The only thing is push power button and force system shut down. Very annoyed with this...I love firefox but don't see other chance at the moment...just changing browser
Moreover updated Adobe Reader plug-in, and when I repeated the 'check for updates' (just to have a confirm it was all been well addressed) the result was (unexpected): adobe reader plug-in 'outdated version'. Again? Are you sure the check is performed correctly? (also rebooted and re-checked, re-installed and re-checked). The answer of the check is always : outdated version
Glenn here again... only change from my previous posts is that I updated to 3.6.7... still freezes computer multiple times a day, much like I described in my previous posts and much like described in the post previous to this one. Sigh. Chrome works pretty darn well. Might not go back. Double sigh.
I have the same problem with mac os 10.6 and firefox 3.6.7. it was working fine up until a day ago and now it hangs at start up or crashes... Funny but not many people seem to have posted a solution on here and no word from Mozilla. I did have the same problem a few months ago and at that time i downgraded to an earlier version which seemed to solve the problem, this time i tried to going back to 3.5 with no avail... so i will check my add ons next to see if that helps the problem... i hope i can fix it as other mac browsers aren't the same
I downloaded Firefox 3.5.10 from Oldversion.com and ensured I'd made a back-up of the bookmarks before removing 3.6.6. I also deleted the mozilla program folder for good measure, and did a registry clean up before reloading the older version. 3.5.10 loaded fine and next day I got a message that 3.5.11 was available as an upgrade. This also runs fine, and I've had no hang ups at all. The only thing that doesn't seem to have been restored is the ability to have more than one Firefox sessions running at the same time.
So don't ditch Firefox just yet, just go back to the trusted model until they fire the turkeys who trashed their good name with the 3.6 version. Then they can replace it by something more robust!
Back again... just loaded up 3.6.8. Not better. Machine froze after leaving Firefox up overnight. Just two tabs open - gmail and google reader. Sigh.
I understand that this is a mozilla support forum. Where is the support? Nothing, natta, zip in the way of help here. Pretty disappointing that after many years of Firefox use (which means many bucks into Mozilla pockets through my many, many Google searchs) that someone from Mozilla can't comment on the thread with at least a clue.
I have the exact same problems you described, Glenn. Upgrades to 3.6.7 and now 3.6.8 haven't ameliorated any of them.
Firefox is so bad now it even makes IE look great by comparison.
Time to end the constant aggravation + lack of support and change browsers.
