I thought my old laptops wlan-card has a loose contact. Every few pages my firefox runs extremely slow or doesnt load the page at all as if my internet was broken down (which is of course not the case).
I hope to find a solution soon, or I'll have to change from my beloved Firefox to something else.
Installed the 3.6.8 update, now FF is unbearably slow and completely locks up at times. It's completely stopped twice just since I began typing this! Make that 3 times! Downloaded Chrome, will give that a try.
download the FLASHBLOCK plug-in. I just did it and it is working GREAT for me.
Firefox 3.6.8 is extremely slow on my office pc (WinXP sp2, and which doesn't have the Flash plugin installed). Pages take a long time to load, nothing on the page is accessible with the mouse until all the external linked data has been downloaded, and even after the page is loaded and displaying, at times it is unresponsive to the mouse and keyboard for minutes at a time. It's close to unusable, so I'm anxious for an update.
I tried using other web browsers after encountering FF's problem and am getting the same issues: tried IE, Crome and Opera. FF must have changed some settings somewhere which is affecting web browsing independently of the web browser being used.
The screenshot shows all I am getting when trying to go to facebook.
I will try uninstalling FF, but I am unsure as to whether this will rectify the problem.
Hi. FF updated two? days ago to 3.6.8. Have got FF 'not responding' and forever to wait for pages to load. Must be really bad as the hour glass figure appears and even when gone it is a click at time to get just one line. WHY are there no OFFICIAL responses on this thread???? IE does NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. Why did I change to FF? Action please.
Windows XP, SP3, same issue.
FF 3.6.8 crawls to a halt ridiculously often, even affecting the speed of my whole system. Had no issues with 3.6.7 at all.
I have a similar problem. My FF started acting really sluggish after the 3.6.7 upgrade. Upon a restart it would be fine for awhile, then starting grinding again. The 3.6.8 upgrade didn't really help much, it maybe extended the time before FF became sluggish.
I had trouble connecting to the Internet for the past 5 days, partially due to Verizon DSL's outage here in Staten Island. However, since I got back online today, I tried opening my business email from Outlook that had .pdf attachments which open via the web for download. NOT ONE could open successfully. In fact, no more .pdf's could open in Firefox.
I spent last night and all day today, over 15 hours, trying to open my business .pdfs online. I was going to trash Vista, Outlook 2007, Adobe Reader 9.3.3. etc. I just cured everything: I downloaded Safari and all works like a charm again. I also use Safari on my Macbook and I knew, since email links opened fine from there via MS Entourage, I knew it was a Firefox problem. I'm fried and finished with FF for now!
Disabled all plug-in apps, restarted...still slow. Google Chrome here I come!
Became intolerably slow now. Seems to be endless upgrades of Java, Flash, and Firefox. Got to be conflict between them eventually. That's the trouble with the Internet anymore. Keep "improving" with endless unchecked updates until it's useless.
Previous entries tell the whole story. Now so slow I want to delete FF3.6.8 and go back to ??3.6.x. Know how to delete FF3.6.8, but how do you load a previous update that worked or would that be a retrograde step? IE is still OK but does seem a bit slower. A previous correspondent suggested the FF updates may have compromised other features.Thank you.
Only one choice left - Google Chrome
This is absolutely unbearable slow. I can't work like this. Have also moved over to Google chrome & IE
I have realised exactly what is going on.
Mozilla have released Firefox 4.0 Beta 2.
Take up has probably been slow. They need as many people as possible to download and test it - so how better than to make 3.6.8 so annoying that people move up to 4.0 b2?
It's deliberate. I'm convinced of it.
By the way, I'm one of them. FF 4.0 b2 works fine for me so far.
downgraded to 3.5.11. I don't use firefox anymore, I use chrome but my wife uses Firefox still. Otherwise I wouldn't fool around with this silly browser anymore. Sad.

These forums are to assist Firefox users with issues that may cause problems. I respect the concept of Mozilla-Firefox as a free Open Source web browser. And yes I agree that Firefox has issues with browsing web pages..
However, these issues are primarily a result of Flash content. Especially, excessive memory usage of flash content with Pop-ups & Pop-under Ads .!! These contents on many, many and many web pages are the major culprits. Not only, slowing down Firefox, but also, a major source of security breaches by unscrupulous web pages and web servers with their invasive scripts and malformed Flash Players …and… not as a result of Firefox browser…
For YEARS..!! Since Adobe purchased Macromedia. They have completely ignored the users of Open Source browsers and have only concerned themselves with M$ [Internet Explorer]. For this good reason Apple as eliminated the usages of flash content from their Maxi-Pad device.…!!!
Most experienced internet users eliminated Adobe Flash from executing from with-in their Operating System and allow flash content to work solely from their Internet browser’s connection.
Such A program is called Flash Switcher (Add-0n). This is a blessing for Firefox web surfers who enjoy watching movies and TV series… I have nine (9) versions of flash Player at my disposal with this add-on and Zero, Nada, Zip Flash player installed in my Windows Vista O/S… i.e. C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash Folder is completely empty…!!! And no Flash player installed in my Programs period..!! Therefore, if a web page has issues and freezes. All I do is change the flash Player (On the Fly) and I try to remember which version is excellent for that particular web site… Note*** This procedure is used if I wish to view a movie, series or other long playing content…
But as a rule, I normally use... Version: Flash Player 9.0.115.0 (Non-IE) Or For Flash 10 = 10.0 r12 (Non-IE)

It takes a lot of patience to install each and every version of Flash Player to your profile folder..i.e. and this information is solely your responsibility if you choose to install….
Flash Switcher [User -Folder] Location: Windows Vista Ultimate/32: C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxx\extensions\flash_switcher_win@sephiroth.it\plugins\win • Replace xxx info with your personal user info…
1. Move All Flash files • From::: a. C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash [Folder] write down version # 10.0 r45 • To:::: a. Flash Switcher [Folder/User location-above ] i. Create a new sub-Folder and name it the version you are moving ..ie… 10.0 r45 [above] ii. Paste or copy All the files from C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash into new sub-folder… 2. Download another Flash version you know has work on most web pages and/or the flash player version from your favorite web site… 3. Uninstall Flash Player i. Using Flash uninstaller 4. Install your next version of Flash Player 5. Repeat Step 1 • Do this until all of your preferred Flash player have been downloaded 6. Finish by uninstalling last Flash Player and confirm… • C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash Folder is completely empty. But..!!! Do not delete the folder …!!! • No Flash Player is Installed in O/S….!!!!
I Repeat:: I have nine (9) versions of flash Player at my disposal with this add-on and Zero, Nada; Zip. Flash player installed in my Windows Vista O/S… i.e. C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash Folder is completely empty…!!! And no Flash player installed in my Programs period..!! if I wish to view a movie, series or other long playing content without skips or excessive buffering. Then Flash Switcher is your best bet.. It has relieve me of crappy Adobe Flash Player issues… And Adobe’s year after year of falsely misleading web surfers with claims that installing the latest version will resolve web content issues…
Truth be told Firefox’s attempt (container.exe) to manage memory usage of web plug ins = contents and flash. Has not work very well… If this is your case then just Disable the container.exe preferences… See***

Bottom Line is Do Not criticize Firefox (3.6.8). It is an excellent web browser and yes Chrome and Opera are faster. Internet Explorer is Micro$oft = enough said..!!! But, None of them are of the same Caliber, as Stable nor as pleasing as Firefox…

Hello everyone.
It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in safe mode (don't forget to select Disable all add-ons when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See this article for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and this one for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem is not disappears when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.
all my add-ons are disabled. no relief. I run on Ubuntu Lucid Lynx. still slow.
Can you please try it in a new (temporary) Firefox profile and see if the issue is still present? See this article to know how to create a new Firefox profile. Please report back the results.
