I just to have XP on my notebook and then decided to upgrade to Windows 7. I forgot to backup my bookmarks before the installation but after converting I saw that Windows.old still was in my harddrive and that it seems as my old Mozilla-folder is still there and i have places.sqlite-file and also a bookmarks.html-file.

I have tried to Import HTML and copy the places.sqlite to various folders but without success. What do I do?

You can just copy the old places.sqlite file into your current profile folder.

To ensure you have the correct profile folder:

  1. On the menu bar, click on the Help menu and select Troubleshooting Information... . The Troubleshooting Information tab will open.
  2. Under the Application Basics section, click on Open Containing Folder . Your current profile folder will open in your file manager.

You can close Firefox and then copy places.sqlite into that folder.

Do you have any JSON backup (.json) in the bookmarkbackups folder?

Okay, when I press "open containing folder" I come to my xxxxxxx.defualt-folder.

Perhaps I missunderstood earlier when I wrote. I can't find a places.sqlite or bookmarks.html in the windows.old-folder.

I do hade a JSON-file in the xxxxxx.default folder. But not in my "old" folder.

Is there any way to retrieve my bookmarks?

The image shows the old installation folder, not the profile folder. You can try to find the old profile folder by searching for places.sqlite

Set Windows 7 to show hidden files. Now use windows explorer to search for places.sqlite inside the windows.old folder, making sure you search sub-folders

I can only find one places.sqlite-file and that's seems to be the new one. Doesn't change anything anyway. Perhaps I have to give up. But still, thank you very much!
