Why is the background of the navigation bar on firefox 4 grey? How do i make it have a clear background like the rest of the toolbars?

You could use the userchrome.css. This can make it transparent if you want. For example use the code:
#nav-bar{ background:rgba(255,0,0,0.5) !important; }
This should make your navigation bar red with alpha 0.5.
If you don't know what user chrome is, read this:
http://lifehacker.com/#!197715/customize-firefox-with-userchromecss
(in Windows 7 the directory of the userchrome is {windowsdrive}:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\{profile}\chrome)
In Firefox 4 the directory chrome is not created with installation, this may mean you have to create it yourself.

Formatting options on the forum is showing BTTF's suggestion incorrectly. It should be
#nav-bar{background:rgba(255,0,0,0.5) !important; }
I have not tested this solution, so I can not vouch that it works.
