when I try to use Firefox, I get a message that says there's a problem loading the page because Firefox uses a proxy server that is refusing connections.
I've tried updating Firefox. I've had professional tech support address this issue and still when I click on an article or try to use Firefox as a browser, it just tells me that there's a problem loadind the page because Firefox uses a proxy server that is refusing connections. I've had my computer professionally scanned and eliminated all malware and spyware and I still have this problem.

You can find the connection settings in Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select "No Proxy"
See "Firefox connection settings":
This solution works on my XP machine, but I have to do this every time I open Firefox 4. I did not have this problem until I upgraded from my last version of Firefox 3.x. How do I get this PC to save the "no proxies" setting?
This can be a problem with the file that stores the preferences.
ALWAYS Running in "Safe Mode", which deactivates all the add-ons & plug-ins solves the problem, but that is no solution, so my problem is with some AO or PI.
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
- Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
- Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
What is the fix for the error firefox is refusing proxy connection

Thanks so much for this site....it fixed my problem immediately by checking no proxy, by doing so will I have any other problems like....other sites getting passwords, email sites, downloading malwares, etc????
Automatic proxy detection via "Use System Proxy Settings" doesn't work well on Windows XP, so if you are on that platform then best is to set "No proxy". On other platforms the default setting should work.
