security vunerabilities: automatically loading malware
My computer has been invaded by malware that installs when I load a page without saying okay to any prompts. The malware has destroyed my registry and forced a re-install of Windows.
The web address cannot be given because I dare not go back there. I had Microsoft Security Essentials at the time which closed Firefox when it realized the suspicious activities were going on but by that time it was too late.
My best guess would be that somehow the malware was installed using some sort of Java script. Not sure but a scan showed some js files infected. Also the scan found an EXE in the cache files which was infected. Don't remember the name of the malware.

You more than likely clicked on a link or an image which redirected you to a malware site which subsequently ran an animation purporting to have found a number of viruses on your machine. It's more than likely the one you see here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-win-7-antispyware-2011
What you need to do here is to download the free version of Malwarebytes from here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free and then run a full scan.
If you find you cannot reach that site because the malware is blocking access, download it to either a friend's computer, or maybe one at work and then copy the file to a USB drive. Then copy it from there to your own PC and run it.
There was no selection for a download! There was no OK! The malware was loaded without any interaction from me! Yes, the site that I went to forced a new browser window to open but still there was no interaction. The malware was launched and the damage was done!
