how do i reset the proxy server to make firefox the opening (home) page? i cannot access it anymore

the other day i saw some sort of Firefox update doing on...since then i cant get Firefox to load, seems to be a proxy server problem. how do i restore/change these settings? aol works, facebook works when accessed thru AOL...everything works except Firefox. this is a desktop using Window XP. its my fathers computer, he doesnt understand them and he cannot live without Firefox as his home page. thank you!

You can find the connection settings in Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select "No Proxy"
