i notice that whenever the Site Identity Button is gray (i.e. most of the time), when browsing to different pages on a web site, the address bar does not change, and just keeps showing the root of the domain, e.g. "eircom.net" when the actual URL may be "http://entertainment.eircom.net/movies/". the true URL is not revealed until i click on the Site Identity Button. i get a pop up from Firefox "This web site does not supply identity information". the URL of the previous page/site (and the FavIcon image) are left in place until i click the button.

Chosen solution

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

hi cor-el. thanks for the suggestion. i disabled all add-ons and enabled them one by one until i found the culprit: IE Tab. even though it was not active because Firefox said it was not compatible, it was causing the problem. thanks

I had the same problem. Favicon Picker 2 is what broke it for me. I think, not many people notice this.
