With FF 5.o there is a bug with the address bar not showing the URL of the website that is being viewed. I have seen versions of this problem all over the internet but no good answers and it seems to be a real problem that is not being addressed. I am Wind XP and tried to duplicate with FF in safe mode just in case it was a 'add in' issue but its not. Happens in safe mode too.

When I type a URL into the address bar it stays there once the website is in front of me but if I use a search engine and use a results link to get to a website - the address bar does not reflect the website I am on. It usually just says "go to a website" or if I have been on my home page when I try to go elsewhere using a search engine results link - my home page URL remains in the address bar. This is just ridiculous behavior in a new version of FF.

Bottom line....regardless of how I gett there - the URL of the website I am currently on should be in the address bar. I cannot not copy/paste a URL that does not show up and that's a real issue too. What is more basic than being able to see the URL of the page you are on?

I can only hope that someone addresses my issue and all the other similar ones that are on FF Support. Its like we are being ignored. Usually a FF user figures out and shares a work around but not this time. That distresses me. Number one..we users should not have to work around new FF versions and Number two...why does FF remove necessary features when upgrading? Makes no sense to me.

Thank you and please just allow us to see the URL of the site we are looking at. How simple is that?

Try a new Profile. But don't delete the current Profile.

You're really suggesting that we should delete all our Bookmarks, lose all our preferences, reset toolbars to defaults and disable all addons to cure this?

I tend to think that it's not a bug but something deliberate (but ill-thought out), otherwise it would have just lost the URL not replaced it with this trite "Go to a website" message.

That message smacks of someone's bright idea to make it more "friendly" who didn't realize how irritating it would be.

The interesting thing is that it doesn't happen on all links. I haven't really worked out a pattern, but possibly it depends on whether the link is set to open in a new window or to replace the existing site.

Which of the 2 answers provided suggests that a person delete all their bookmarks?
I specifically said "But don't delete the current Profile."

A typical support response would have been to see if that problem happens in the Firefox SafeMode and then to troubleshoot extensions, but the "Owner" had already done that. "Happens in safe mode too. "

That is why I advised him to try a new Profile. If that would have solved his problem, I would have told him how you recover his bookmarks, site permissions, and passwords from the old Profile. (Which I told him not to delete; bookmarks are stored in the Profile folder.)
