Are bookmarks transferrable from firefox 3.6. to the new version of firefox, and how did we jump from firefox 4 to firefox 8?
we previously installed firefox 4 then uninstalled as we couldn't transfer our bookmarks. Is this possible with the new version? the number 8 is a big jump from the number 4. is there a huge difference between the two? is firefox 4 not used anylonger?

Yes no problem. To jump from 3.6 to Firefox 8 you will need to install Firefox 8.
- see How to download and install Firefox on Mac (other systems: installing firefox )
- use an official site such as http://www.getfirefox.com/
At least in Windows there is no need to uninstall Firefox 3.6 Firefox 8 will install over the top. Do NOT use options to uninstall and remove personal settings or you will loose bookmarks and passwords etc. It is good practice to backup bookmarks somewhere safe (outside of Firefox Profile and Program paths), it may be a good idea to ensure you do that before upgrading.
- backing up and restoring bookmarks
- whilst not to be relied on as a server based backup if you have multiple devices also consider using sync the synced bookmarks on the other device may be considered a suitable backup.
