When website icons no longer appear in front of bookmarked site names how can we get them to show again?

Formerly, the icons that corresponded to the names, of the websites I have bookmarked, were displayed in front of their names and whenever "Bookmarks" was clicked onto it was easy to find the specific site I wanted to visit. Since upgrading to the current version of Firefox the icons have disappeared from where they previously appeared and all that remains are the names of the websites, which all appear without any icons in the line-up. Occasionally one or two f the icons will show for a brief time in front of a website name, but mostly they are completely absent. What if anything can be done about reapplying the icons permanently, again?

I followed the process to the letter and it did not solve the problem...  :-( I decided to close Firefox, shut down my system and then rebooted it. Now the problem is solved.  :-)
