You just need to change your default homepage is all, the Firefox what's new page is selected as your opening home/default which is why you are getting this page opening each time.

1. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP) and then click Options

2. Select the General panel.

3. In the Startup box, click the dropdown menu next to "When Firefox starts:" and select what Firefox should display when it starts up. - Show my home page - Displays the home page(s). - Show a blank page - Displays a blank page. This loads quickly since you don't have to wait for lots of tabs to load. - Show my windows and tabs from last time - Opens the pages you were visiting the last time you used Firefox so you can continue where you left off.

4. Click OK to close the Options window .

this is not the answer as my default homepage opens up in the second tab every time.. I checked and re-entered this info again but the same pages keep opening. The first one is the "Hooray! Your Firefox is up to date." page and on the tab next to it is my home page. I can exit the what's new page but it reappears when I exit all tabs and start firefox up again.

I was about to ask the same. FF just updated itself to 10.0.0, and now it keeps opening with http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/10.0.1/whatsnew/, in addition to whatever tabs I had open the last time. Meanwhile, my preferences are (and have always been) set so that it should open with a blank page and even my home page is set as "about:blank". This would seem to be a bug with the update process to 10.0.1.

If I look at about:config and search for "start", I see the following entries. No matter how many times I clear them and restart, they keep coming back:

browser.startup.homepage_override.buildID 20120208060813

browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone rv:10.0.1

startup.homepage_override_url http://www.mozilla.com/%LOCALE%/%APP%/%VERSION%/whatsnew/

It's still there for me even after a restart.
