Firefox update 16 prevents typing in search box

I had Firefox 15.1.1 on my netbook and found that when I clicked on the search bar, the cursor would move to the front of the word Google and would not allow me to type anything in. Reinstalling from scratch did not help. I put it down to a conflict with something else installed.

On my PC the search was working well until I updated from 14.1.1 to 16.1.1 and the same happened as with my netbook, the cursor would go infront of the word Google and I could not enter anything by typing.

I did a System Restore on my PC and got 14.1.1 back and the search bar worked. So I then uninstalled Firefox on my netbook and reinstalled with 14.1.1 and it's working well.

Incidentally, while I had 15.1.1 on my netbook, I used a work around by dragging a word to the search bar, google would find it, and then I was able to use the search bar until I closed Firefox.

I did numerous searches but could not find a solution to the problem. Creating a new profile, as recommended, did not help. When I uninstalled 15.1.1 off the netbook and reinstalled with 14.1.1, the latter used the existing profile without any problems.

I attributed the problem to my configuration on the netbook but when the problem also appeared on my PC then I can safely say that there appears to be a bug in 15.1.1 and it had not been resolved in 16.1.1

Hi madperson,

Many apologies for not getting back to you earlier. Everything is now working well using the latest version after I decided to uninstall Firefox, delete the Mozilla folder and start again. My current Mozilla folder is around 20MB while the old folder was 44MB. I can only presume that there was a lot of unnecessary information in that folder and that something created the problem that I posted. Thank you for your reply.
