A couple days ago, my cat walked across my KB and somehow got firefox stuck in Safe mode. (The FF icon is replaced with an orange button, and my add ons are gone)

I have tried deleting shortcuts, and even uninstalled/reinstalled FF, still stuck in safe mode.

I am going crazy trying to get this thig to work right, can anyone please help?

Could you try using the Profile Manager?

With all Firefox windows close, type or paste the following into the search box on the Windows Start menu and press Enter:

firefox.exe /ProfileManager

You should get a small dialog with a choice of one or more profiles (most users have one profile with "default" in the name). If you select your default profile and click Restart Firefox, does it start normally?

If you noticed any unexpected "old settings" folder showing up on your desktop, your cat may have reset Firefox. You can use files in that old settings folder to recover your add-ons and toolbar customizations. If you found one, let us know.

hello fundmental, you might have accidentally reset firefox to the default settings when you went into safe-mode.

this would explain why your addons are gone - while you are in safemode they would just be disabled but still visible in the addons manager. the orange firefox button is part of the default view on vista & windows 7 and is only present when the menu-bar is hidden.

edit: please also keep your plugins updated!

now that you mention it, there Is a folder like that on my desktop. Now I'm just not sure what to do with it :op That's exactly what she did. (Hmm maybe I should hire her out as tech support) Thanks for the help :)

You can transfer (copy) some files from the profile on the desktop to your current Firefox Profile Folder.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder
