I get pop ups saying 21 is out dated , is this true or is this an evil program trying to get me to down load a nefarious product or virus. I close it and look for up dates at Mozilla directly but find nothing newer than 21

21 is the newest version. Scan for malware Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware and if you still get these pop-ups, can you take a screenshot?

Thanks for your reply, I'm not sure about getting a screen shot my concern being I do not want to activate whatever they are trying to do, some times out of concern I totally shut down (pull the plug) because some of these programs anticipate your evasive action and have written in to the program for that as well. Thank you for your support and I will scan for malwere.

Screenshots are completely benign as it simply transfers a copy of the framebuffer to the clipboard memory space. And I've yet to come across a malware application that's concerned with an image in the clipboard buffer. Text, sure, but not images.

Also, plug pulling generally won't help unless its the network plug you're pulling. If malware is on your hard disk when you pull the power, it will be there when power returns. The important thing is to keep it from calling home and/or inviting more threats in while you clean it out. So pull the network cable and turn off the physical switch for the wireless, then run your anti-malware applications from a flash drive. Most good anti-malware programs will allow you to download both the installer and updates in an offline form for this purpose.

Is your homepage set to the old www.google.com/firefox/ as Google has not maintained that start page ever since Firefox 4.0 as it has been about:home since.

I strongly suggest scanning your computer with every anti-malware tool in that article, it sounds like you have an infection

That's what it says I do not know the source. Is it safe? Is it from Mozilla/Fire fox or is it generated by a virus?

I don't understand what you mean, It says 21 is out dated but I'm told 21 is the newest?

It is a ploy to get you to download spyware as my link shows.

I suspected as much but was not sure. I get a similar one telling me I need to update Java I think it's the same thing. Thank you very much for the help.

You should always make sure you software is up to date by visiting their OFFICIAL sites, never trust other, suspicious sites like this.

that's what I did. I never clicked on it , it would come up ,I would close it and go to mozilla but could not find any thing newer. that is why I came here to see if my suspicions were true. I get a similar window saying I need to update java and one for flash player. I close them as well but do not know where to go to check if I need to update them.

To check if your flash and Java need to be updated, use https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/

Thanks Again , I will do that.
