Hi Neil, hopefully you have recovered from the program that YouTube video recommends; I haven't heard of it before, and anything that cleans out the registry poses the risk of breaking software that depends on those settings.

I understand RealPlayer or RealDownloader didn't work with Firefox 22 when it was released; other users have reported that, and I assume in your testing you have disabled it. If not, please go ahead and do that.

Can you update the current Flash problem:

• Does the player get an internal crash notice, or does it just not do anything?

• Are any of the crash IDs in about:crashes clickable so you can share crash data with volunteers here?

• Please confirm you've done the 3 standard steps for Flash problems (after a reset, you need to repeat (2)(B)(A) in the new settings):

(1) Make sure all recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them.

(2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash

(A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"

the cleaner I ran did not actually alter the registry, it clears out temp files and cache files for internet browsers just to keep them clean, I have been using it for years and never had any problems with it so I do not think it has causedthe problem.

Does Real player actually work with Firefox now because if not then I am wasting your time.

I have updated flash and checked Real player is up to date. there are not crash notices at all, the page starts to load then just freezes, I get a message saying flash player not responding and do i want to stop.

I am still using IE as Firefox keeps freezing so nothing so far seems to have made any difference. My home PC works fine running XP so is it possible this is a windows 7 / firefox problem ?

Hi Neil, I don't use RealPlayer and don't know the status on that. One major difference between Windows XP and Windows 7 is that the Flash Player plugin uses "protected mode" on Windows 7 (also Vista and 8) but not on XP.

Until Firefox updated to the latest edition Real Player was working fine with the downloads etc and firefox was stable.

Is there any other software to download video clips you recommend for Firefox please.

Also have you any idea how I can make Firefox stable enough to use again as it still keeps freezing even when trying to load web pages, hence I am having to use Internet Explorer but I would rather use Firefox

I have updated firefox to version 23 real player latest issue as is adobe flash player. Real player downloader still does not work although firefox seems stable enough to use now. Any ideas what I can try to get the downloader working ?

Regarding your real player problem, here's what I did after trying everything. I uninstalled real player including the library (it doesn't matter whether you just upgraded to the new version). Make sure you make a copy of the folder "real player download" to another folder so you can copy it back later. It is in the folder "videos". In mine it is in my user name on my desktop.

Also uninstall real downloader if you have it installed separately (as I have). Check firefox addons and extension and make sure that you do not have anything there about real player or real player downloader. Otherwise you might have to reset firefox.

Download the latest version of real player and just install it. When you get prompted to add real downloader to firefox, just say yes. Then go to you tube and download the files that you couldn't download before. I did that and it worked.

thanks for your help, I tried it again before your suggestion and for some reason it was working, I think real player updated again. I did however carry out your suggestion so that everything was new and hopefully now updates will continue to work fine.Real player is now as it used to and Firefox is stable.

Solved the whole Real Player-Firefox issues. Simply go your control panel, select "Programs", under "Default Programs" click on "Change default settings for media or devices". Find Video Files and choose Real Player logo to Import Music, Video and Pictures using Real Player. Click "Save" at the bottom of the window, then closeout and restart Firefox. You should see the "Download this Video" icon in YouTube videos once again and download at will. One caveat, it seems to work great on amateur videos and the like. I had an issue downloading some music videos. It's kind of hit or miss, you will have to keep trying to download a video if it doesn't work initially. I noticed that it downloads videos as a .dash file and then Real Player downloader will convert the file to mp4 or whatever format you have it set to in your preferences. These directions are for Windows 7, you will have to find the equivalent control panel options for other Windows OS. Good luck!
