Hi! My problem is that when I'm opening a new tab Bing Search opens up and I would like to reset the tabs to the original tab-site, I have already tried to fix the problem through the about:config site but it won't work. When I press reset on browser.newtab.url it just resets to Bing Search. Please help!

Chosen solution

Try Resetting your Firefox browser. Click Help >> Troubleshooting Information >> Reset Firefox.

If that doesn't fix the problem, run AdwCleaner Utility. Download it here http://download.cnet.com/AdwCleaner/3000-7786_4-75851221.html When the program launches, click on Scan and it will try to remove unwanted add-ons, toolbars and more.

You can also delete the Firefox shortcut which you use all the time as it may be infected. Open Firefox from the Start menu or type firefox in the Run window.

It sounds like you have a third party program that has taken over your search engine, home page, and/or the default new tab page. Fortunately, this can be remedied easily:

  1. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP), and then click Add-ons. The Add-ons Manager tab will open.
  2. In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Extensions panel.
  3. Select the toolbar you wish to remove.
  4. Click the remove button.
  5. Click "Restart now" if it pops up. Your tabs will be saved and restored after the restart.

After Firefox restarts, install the Search Reset Tool. This will remove the rest of the traces of this program from your Firefox.
