no need to hold your breath any longer - firefox metro has been dumped for good now unfortunately: https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases/2014/03/14/metro/

Hello,
Firefox automatically creates backups of your bookmarks, which can be helpful if your bookmarks are lost or missing. To recover them, follow the instructions below.
- Use one of these methods to open the Bookmarks Library window:
- Click the Firefox button to open the menu and click on Bookmarks.
- Click the Bookmarks menu and click on Show All Bookmarks.
- At the top of the Library window, click the "Import and Backup" menu and select Restore.
- Click the date of the bookmark backup you want to recover.
- In the new window that appears, click OK.
- Your bookmarks from the selected date should now be restored.
For more information, see the Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer article. For other solutions, see the Recover lost or missing Bookmarks article.

Thank you.
Hi! No, I don't want to recover them, when I start aurora in desktop mode they're all there. The question is, how do I access them?

Or rather, how do I access them in metro mode?

hello Volker_Hetzer, please keep in mind that firefox for metro is designed as a simple browser to be controlled by touch gestures and doesn't bring the full feature set of the desktop browser. just a general hint, you can bring up the browser controls like in other metro apps: Swipe in from the top or bottom edge of the screen. - alternatively press windows-key+z or right-click somewhere in a page. to get to the settings swipe in from the right side or pres windows-key +c

as far as i understand it, your bookmarks from the desktop will be suggested as destinations once you type into the address bar but they aren't accessible as a whole from within the metro interface. on the other hand you can create bookmarks within firefox metro mode that will show up on the "awesome screen" (the one that shows when you open a new tab). those should also show up on the desktop bookmarks menu under the label firefox touch...
Sorry but I've got about 800 bookmarks, sorted in I dunno how many folders. It can't be that difficult to add a favourites button, like the "switch to desktop" button at the bottom right side.
Do you have any idea whether the turrent state of affairs re bookmarks is going to persist?
i'm just a user like you, so i can only attest to the current state and don't really know about future plans. however, i will try to get somebody from mozilla to reply to your last question (however, since it's currently weekend it might take a few days)...
Thanks very much for your help! :-)
Hi, I'm one of the developers of the Windows 8 Touch ("Metro") app in Firefox Aurora. The Windows 8 Touch app has very limited bookmarking features, just because it's new and we haven't had time to add more a more complete bookmark experience.
Currently you can add, remove, and view bookmarks in a single list that appears on the Firefox Start page in the Windows 8 Touch app. You can also type in the address/search bar to search through your all your bookmarks and history (including bookmarks saved by desktop Firefox).
In the future we will add the ability to browse and edit all of your bookmarks within the Windows 8 Touch app. We're starting the work to build that feature soon, and you can follow along in bug 801164 if you're interested.
Hey, thanks a lot for bothering! :-) I'll be patiient.
