Unable to link to internet from thunderbird Email

Whenever I attempt to link to internet from Emails in thunderbird I am unable to do so. I have to 'copy link location' and copy into my browser to get to the desired site. However on another user account on the same computer can achieve the desired result. Help!

It sometimes helps to set another browser as default browser, e.g. IE, and then switch back to Chrome as default browser.

I tried the options given but the problem still exists my default browser is google chrome.
