There are two bars:

  • Bookmarks Toolbar that appears horizontally, under the address bar
  • Bookmarks Sidebar that appears vertically along the left side

The sidebar button is gone, but you can open it using either:

  • Ctrl+b
  • Bookmarks menu > View Bookmarks Sidebar

Is that what you're looking for?

You can use F10 to get your menu bar back temporarily and then use the View menu to activate the toolbar - F10 > View > Toolbars > Bookmarks Toolbar ...

Or perhaps your bookmark button is missing like mine was; I made a video about it http://alicious.com/firefox-bookmark-star-missing/ which might help.

I guess i failed to make my question clear. i'm sorry. after this upgrade there is a horizontal region called the "bookmarks toolbar" near the top of the new window, but this region is empty. an hour ago it contained many bookmarks. can you explain how i can repopulate the new "bookmarks toolbar" with all of the bookmarks that it contained in the previous version of firefox? thank you, ron

i've attached an image showing that when i look at the bookmarks library, all my bookmarks are still in the bookmarks toolbar. i don't understand why in this new version of firefox they are not visible in the actual bookmarks toolbar.

Sounds like a problem with your "places.sqlite" file - is everything else as expected, did you maybe start a new profile entirely?

Do you have a backup you can import via Ctrl+Shift+O bookmarks screen?

Hi ronbar59, when you're in the Customize mode, can you confirm that "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" is on the correct bar and not somewhere else in the interface?

To: jscher2000 and pbhj-

Thanks for your response to my request for help, but the problem has become moot.

I don't understand why the Bookmarks Toolbar in Firefox 29 was empty yesterday, but today it looks like it did before the upgrade.

When I opened Firefox 29 this morning I was pleased to see that my Bookmarks Toolbar was now fully populated (see image).

Thanks again for your suggestions.

Ron
