I installed some themes from extension menu, but those themes change tab and address panels only. Either I don't understand something, or I am looking not right themes.... but background of my visual bookmarks (after cliking "new tab") is still of same grey color.

In chrome, when you install theme, this theme is applied to the default view too.

I searched in all menus, but I didn't find such option.

How to install them so that background was changed or how to set a picture as background of the visual bookmarks?

OS: Ubuntu 12.04, Firefox 29.0

Chosen solution

A Persona (lightweight theme) only gives a background image to the toolbar area of the user interface.

Can you attach a screenshot?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.

Are you talking about the about:newtab page with the nine tiles?

I don't know how it called, maybe "about:newtab", but first one is opened by default when browser is starting (my start page, ubuntu in my case), and second - when i click "open new tab".

I attached screenshots.

UPD. I tried "New Tab Tools" and "Customize about:newtab" and this works as a workaround - I cant set my own picture. Thanks a lot!
