Often enough to be very irritating, Thunderbird says it has loaded a new message, but when I click on it, the actual message is the same as another one. In other words, the subject might say 'Letter from Friend', but the content might be an advertisement from Sears! There seems to be no way to get the new message other than emailing the sender. This was happening a lot for a while; I had about 12 messages like this all at one time. It seems to be not so frequent now, but just happened today with an important message, which we do not have!

Chosen solution

right click the folder, select properties and then the repair button.

Bad synchronisation is often the result of anti virus programs scanning your profile folder every time you get mail. excluding the profile folder from anti virus scanning is probably going to fix the issue. A virus will still be detected by the email virus scanner, you just don't have it scanning the profile folder as well every time a mail is added to the file.
