Firefox is repeatedly DESTROYING my website Bookmarks; will not 'Restore' ANY Bookmarks!! This has happened several times in the past week (late-June, 2014)

This is OUTRAGEOUS, CYNICAL, SADDISTIC, INCOMPETENT, MEAN-SPIRITED - on Firefox-Mozilla's part. "Educated guesses" are yet more YOU--consumers crap that is not at all intended to help consumers.

I have twittered and facebooked this outrage

I see a mod corrected your language, Anyway, as this may be Mozilla Firefox, I Highly doubt this. You may have Malware/Trojan in your mac. Scan it with a antivirus, I think you have a browser hijacker. Which can send and delete things from your browser. "send" meaning stealing information from you and sending it to someone or a company. Scan with an antivirus and reset firefox and see if that works. Hope this helps.

Hi Annette, sorry you are having problems.

It may be worth noting that this is a site where mainly volunteers and fellow Firefox users try to help one another. Trying to be polite and friendly may increase your chances of getting help.

If you want help please paste your full troubleshooting information into a reply, and try to explain calmly and carefully explain what happened and how what problems you have that we may be able to help you with.

  • Do you have any backups of your bookmarks or any backups of your computer files and disk image ? (Probably not but it is worth asking.)
  • Is it just open tabs that have been lost or have you lost those and also all of your Bookmarks. Or are you only occasionally loosing partial sets of information.

I suggest you immediately backup your Firefox profile that may preserve important bookmarks, files and information.

Or you could just rely on help from twitter and Facebook.

The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other Firefox users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or Firefox developers.

If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Submit Feedback... or use this link. Your feedback gets collected at http://input.mozilla.org/, where a team of people read it and gather data about the most common issues.

To find the correct solution to your problem, we require some more non-personal information from you. Please do the following:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information.

Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.

  1. At the top of the page, you should see a button that says "Copy text to clipboard". Click it.
  2. Now, go back to your forum post and click inside the reply box. Press Ctrl+V to paste all the information you copied into the forum post.

If you need further information about the Troubleshooting information page, please read the article Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues.

Thanks in advance for your help!

You have some modified prefs which may be unusual. (I will need to try to look some of those up myself.) You have several toolbars which is not a good omen and you have conduit. e.g. keyword.URL: http://search.conduit.com/ResultsExt.aspx?ctid=CT3196716&SearchSource=2&q=

If it was a Windows OS I would be advising malware scanning. That is more difficult on a Mac, and possibly less likely that you do have malware, but you certainly could have unwanted addons &/or applications.

I may have to let someone else answer this and have marked the question escalate Meanwhile

more options

You have a few community toolbars listed in the System Details list that might have created the conduit prefs:

  • Name: WiseConvert Community Toolbar Version: 3.21.0.1
  • Name: Free TV Bar Community Toolbar Version: 3.21.0.1

You can remove these extensions.

You can open the about:config page via the location bar and search for prefs that refer to conduit. You can reset user set (bold) prefs via the right-click context menu to the default value.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Hi Annette, Thank you for your question and feedback, it must be extremely frustrating to not being able to restore bookmarks. Did you have a back up json file from a previous back up in the profile manager?

This may be useful, but as it seems there are some addons that may be affecting your experience, please also post back with the results of these troubleshooting steps.

We look forward to your reply and further investigating this issue so that it does not happen in the future.
