Session Restore useless- ALWAYS locks up

So I Force Quit, open FF again, and delete half the tabs... then it locks up... so I delete half of the rest.... then it locks up... Maybe after several iterations I get lucky & it restores a couple tabs.

Ab-so-USELESS.

WHY CAN'T FIREFOX HANDLE THE RE-OPENING OF TABS WITHOUT CRASHING ITSELF !!!!!

You can set the browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes pref to 0 on the about:config page to get the about:sessionrestore page immediately with the first start after a crash has occurred or the Task Manager was used to close Firefox.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

This problem is about FF not handling unresponsive scripts properly when restoring a session. There are ALWAYS one or more pages that have a problem which FF doesn't handle & thus locks up.

In the address bar, type about:crashes. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers, click it and select Submit.

Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.

Type about:preferences<Enter> in the address bar.

Select General. Under Tabs, turn on Don’t load tabs until selected.

crashes: one marked bp from 8/16/14

Already not loading tabs until selected.

After posting the previous, I dragged this tab to become a window and it took 30-60 seconds.

Creating a new window via ctrl-N took the same amount of time, and the Chromatic Spinner appeared.

Big improvement but I have changed nothing except some of the actual tabs I have open.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Already did that a month or so ago.

just read the various problems I'm still having here:

About 10 minutes ago I loaded the FF update. I closed the update popup, and about 9 minutes ago I selected QUIT from the dropdown menu.

%CPU usage by FF has varied between about 50% and 100%.

FF still has not shut down -- I even navigated to THIS tab, and here I am posting THIS message.

WTF ???

INITIAL RESTART AFTER UPDATING TO FF VER 33 Used Session Manager Addon to restore a session. After some minutes FF stopped loading tabs and eventually the Unresponsive Script popup appeared BUT none of the buttons in the popup were active. Same problem as in the previous revision of FF. Force Quit about 30 minutes after initiating restart

Got the console error log if posting is useful. Seems to be mostly recording the version update and some addons updating/installing

SECOND RESTART, USING FF BUILT IN SESSION RESTORE:

FF Became Not Responding on the same tab, but no Unresponsive Script popup. Force Quit about 10 minutes after initiating restart.

Got the console error log if posting is useful. Seems to be mostly recording the version update and some addons updating/installing but looks different from the first.

THIRD TRY Using Session Manager, but loading in several batches. Did not include the problematic tab from the last two tries.

Instead, FF became Not Responding on a mozilla DOT org tab leading to this question.

The tab ID changed to "problem loading page" but it took several minutes for the "connection was reset, try again" popup to appear on the screen in the tab.

FF is STILL Not Responding.

A few more minutes & FF is working again...No, I take that back. The Not Responding message is gone, but FF application won't respond to input. The top of the screen banner still says CONSOLE is the app on top -- but there is a FF window on top.

And now that I have made these notes in Text Edit and then clicked on the visible part of the FF window, TEXT EDIT shows in the banner. And the FF window is still the actual thing on top of my screen, and is unresponsive to input.

And now I notice that FF is back to Not Responding And now it opened a blank tab in that window...actually 3 blank tabs now, next to the mozilla tab. Back to not "not responding..." And I can close them... and the mozilla tab has opened properly...

That took a LONG TIME and NO USEFUL STATUS OUTPUT FROM FF TO TELL ME WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING.

Those console errors have stopped. Still some Ghostery errors but that seems to be not a problem relating to this. After posting this I will continue loading in batches...

Using Safari to send this. FF is locked up again...

Went Not Responding on yet another tab. This one said "waiting for" server for a long time, then it changed to "connected to"

Then the Unresponsive Script popup appeared -- but as always, it is NON FUNCTIONAL. None of the 3 buttons work. None are blue.

And I'm going to post a separate question about the popup problem.

I'm letting FF sit there for a while to see if the damn button ever turns blue...

New thread titled about the popup problem... includes some new Console Errors:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1025558

Yea after many minutes it turned blue... so it started loading again...

And FF has been Not Responding for quite a few minutes again... "waiting for" a youtube tab.

Is it possible that the target server has given up sending, and FF has not noticed and is simply waiting forever ???
