I'm not able to download Mozilla Firefox onto my computer. From my Windows 8 Internet Explorer browser I hit the free download button and it says 'Thanks for downloading' but the program doesn't start. I go to Downloads and Firefox isn't there.

Chosen solution

Thanks, Fred. I appreciate your advice. Your comments about the malware and how the Firefox download should "do all the work", made me think maybe I had a deeper problem. So as an experiment, I tried to download Google Chrome and the same thing happened (nothing!). So rather than throw my computer in the trashcan, I tried REFRESHING it (read "Refresh your PC without affecting your files"). The process took a long time, and I have to reload programs like Microsoft Office and my HP printer, but it FIXED THE PROBLEM! Hallelujah! Then I went back to that link you sent me for Firefox and it downloaded without a problem. THANK YOU for helping me to see that maybe there was a solution out there.

What link did you use for the download?

Thanks, Fred. I've used several links, and just now used the one you posted (thanks). Nothing happens when I click on it. The funny thing is, I've had Firefox on my computer before and I deleted it because I wasn't using it. So I know it CAN be downloaded on my computer... My daughter puts all sorts of games on my computer that eventually slow it down, so I'm constantly deleting these programs--I'm wondering if I accidentally deleted an important file that I should've kept (one that allows me to download Firefox!).

There is the possibility of ad / Mal-ware on your system.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

If you are downloading the full installer, it will do all the work.

What are you using to make the download?

If that computer can't do the download; go to another computer, and download the full installer to a thumb drive.

That was very good work. Well Done. Please flag your last post as Solved Problem so other will know.

In the future;

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.
