is thunderbird a direct/total replacement for outlook using W8.1

Want to swop to/use 2nd hand PC, W8.1 & outlook, outlook is iffy and I dont know full password &username. Microsoft account also iffy.Can I load Thunderbird as a complete replacement for outlook /Microsoft account?

If yes, can I access my old .@sky (POP) present address

as I am a bit of a thicky, please speak simple english
