How to completely disable tab groups in Firefox 40.03? Or even better, completely remove tab group functionality. Because i have very annoying problem with tab groups. It randomly send all my tabs to group and when I try to turn back to my tabs screen I cant. I have to restart Firefox and load tabs with session manager. I try to disable all my plugins but it is not use.

Hello,

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

If you have ever used Tab groups then you may have Tab group items in the Tab bar context menu.

To disable/reset Tab groups: Click the name field of each tab group in the Panorama window (Shift+Ctrl+E) and reset each name to an empty string. Drag the Tab group icon of the Tab bar in the toolbar palette (View > Toolbar > Customize or Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout). Reset the browser.panorama.* prefs on the about:config page to remove the "Move to Group" entry in the right-click context menu of the Tab bar and close and restart Firefox.

  • browser.panorama.experienced_first_run
  • browser.panorama.session_restore_enabled_once

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

thank you for your reply. I reset the browser.panorama.* prefs and label Move to group still exist. Which don't rely bother me, because I never use it. There is no name on recent tab group and i don't have any icon on toolbar. i don't use tab groups deliberately. Tab groups are just randomly activated without my request, usually when I try to open some page link in new tab and i have 50 or more tabs opened in multiple rows.

Reset Firefox / Refresh Firefox is only available in the default Profile - if not shown in Troubleshooting Information above Try Firefox Safe Mode, you're using a Profile other than the default for that user account.

If you are inadvertently selecting a menu item that you don't want to use, you can hide the menu item using Menu Wizard. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/s3menu-wizard/ Which also allows you to rearrange the order of most menu items or move some menu items to a different menu, iirc.

Note that a reset will retain open tabs. I do not know if it also keeps pinned tabs and tab groups.

You did make sure that you have removed all tab groups by setting their name to an empty string?

You did follow all instructions and closed and restartd Firefox?

Try to rename (or delete) the sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

There is no sessionstore.js file in profile or any other Firefox folder. I use Firefox portable 40.0.3.

Thank you for your time but I think there is no solution. All my tabs from time to time continuing to move to tab group without my control, and my only option is to restart FF and load them from Session Manager.
