imap inbox won't get new messages unless I close and then reopen thunderbird

I recently switched one of my email accounts from pop to imap, following all the directions. However if I click on get messages for that account I don't get any messages, even though there are messages left on the email client mail server (in this case mail.rr.com). However, if I close and then reopen Thunderbird the messages will download. Any solutions?

What directions exactly?

Why do you manually check for new messages in the first place?

Typically you'd set an interval to check for new messages, e.g. like every 15 min. If you check for new messages too often (e.g. every minute), your email provider may start to block subsequent connection attempts.

The directions posted here on the Mozilla site to switch from IMAP to POP. The interval had been set to 10 minutes, which is what I used in the POP account. I don't believe that's the issue.

How hard is it to provide a link so we can stop guessing?

I don't believe that's the issue.

I'm not sure what the issue is in the first place. So again, why do you need to manually check for mail at all, since you do get all messages upon starting Thunderbird?

Pretty darned easy, it's https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/switch-pop-imap-account, which took all of 5 seconds to search for.

As to why I need Thunderbird to do what it does with ALL my other email accounts, I basically live my life online, it's where I work, it's part of my social life. I have 6 email accounts. I rarely turn Thunderbird off during the day, I just have it set to send a pop-up when i get new mail. But if I do that now I never get the mail that's waiting to go to my inbox from my mail.dc.rr.com account. I have to exit Thunderbird, wait a few minutes and then turn it back on. Not the way it's supposed to work I don't think. So, do you know why it's doing that?

I'd check with the email provider how often they allow to check for new mail. Is this the only mail.dc.rr.com account or are there others?

I suddenly started having the same problem using go daddy imap mail. thunderbird will not check and download messages unless I close the program and re-open it. can this be solved?

So are most of the Go Daddy customers. Ask them what is wrong with their servers.
