Hi dobydoby, I see the same-looking page for https://www.yahoo.com/ in Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer. (Not logged in, I only looked at the page logged out.) Do you see the "old" style in any browser you use?

It was regular looking in chrome. I know this is some code issue in firefox, I just tried it on my mac, same issue as my windows based.

Could you post some screen shots showing the differences since I can't see them between Firefox and Chrome?

Could you check the settings of the Yahoo! toolbar (gear icon at the right end of the bar) to see whether anything in there affects the appearance of the page? If you already cleared cookies, it seems that toolbar is the main difference between your Firefox and mine.

Not sure what I was looking for but I looked at the toolbar and see my usual stuff. The two screen shots I sent you (minus toolbar) are different. I hope you can see the difference, and that is what I am talking about wanting to 'recode? change it. Also, (you will say post in another forum) but since update, now firefox keeps freezing at installing any add ons as well and i have set mine to open every single link in a new window, but it only works part of the time ( tried tab mix etc, too complicated). so some kind of bug?

Also I noticed when I try to use firefox on Mac, its hanging and saying scripts problem and then crashing or/and asking about debugging, (yes I am synced/signed in for mozilla on my mac too) so is it some system wide issue?

Unless Firefox is fumbling the code sent by Yahoo, you are seeing what Yahoo wants you to see. On your Firefox, you have a link for My Yahoo that does not appear on Chrome. So Yahoo is sending different pages but the only difference I can see between your browsers is that in Firefox you have the Yahoo toolbar. That's why I thought a setting in the toolbar could be modifying the page. Does the gray "gear" icon at the right end of the toolbar let you modify its setting?

Firefox has a setting to divert a new window to a new tab instead. However, if the site doesn't code the link to launch a new window -- the link is a standard link that opens in the same tab -- the checkbox doesn't affect those. Tab Mix Plus lets you override the normal "stay in the same tab" behavior. Possibly other simpler extensions can do it too, but I'm not personally familiar with them.

Sometimes when Firefox is inexplicably "broken" after an update, the problem is that the updater failed to completely replace the older program files with the newer ones. For that we suggest:

Clean Reinstall

We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.

(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 44.0 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(C) Rename the program folder as follows:

(64-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

(32-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

(D) Run the installer you downloaded in step (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Does a cleanly reinstalled Firefox install Add-ons normally?

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

• \OldFirefox\Plugins
• \OldFirefox\browser\plugins

Thank you, it looks like that might take time, so I will do it later today, but I am wondering is there any way to keep ( once I get where I want it all) my exact configuration for home page/settings etc? See I am signed in, and I do sync my mozilla, but that does not stop things like this from happening. I want to know if there is any way to lock it down from any further changes, except firefox updates ( yes I know they are what often cause problems) but mainly want to keep my home page the same always, not sure yahoo is doing this ... is there a code to put into about config to keep it same?

Firefox stores only:

• home page address (what you see in the address bar)
• cookies the site uses to customize the page for you

I don't think there's anything else you could back up that would affect what the site sends to Firefox.

I did the clean reinstall, seems to be back to my regular page, wanted to send you data about it, but not sure how to attach it,? from this webpage/site. I figured you would know by looking at my data, why its working and back to normal now. If you tell me what steps, I will send it. I am concerned that it will go away in future, however, I am hopeful that my mozbackup will let me go back to normal if it happens again, I had forgotten I had it and can still use it. I know they are no longer updating it, but its comforting to know I have something, I wish there was another program that saves it all like that does ( well I don't think it saves everything).

I'm not sure anyone will get to the bottom of it, but the clean reinstall doesn't change your Firefox data, so it must have been something wrong with the program files.

I use Firefox 40 and this still happened. Yahoo changed their page layout, so it's on them, not us.

Sadly, the new update done, but days later, and now I see that I am having same problem again with homepage, it may be Yahoo's fault, but I will once more try the clean reinstall that worked back in January. I do use mozbackup and it helps me with getting all my stuff back for extensions but the HOMePage for yahoo is what I hate ( see previous photos) and the difference it does make.

Did the whole clean install, BUT no joy, old yahoo home page still not working,... any other suggestions?
