Every time I open Thunderbird, it places files, labeled Trash, Trash.msf, Unsent Messages, and Unsent Messages.msf on my desktop. I somehow must have messed up one of my preferences. I don't want to delete and re-install TB, as I have several different email addresses, and I don't want to have to set up all of those identities again.

I am using a MacBook, running Mac OS X 10.6.8, with an Intel core duo chip.

I would suggest you check in your account settings in server settings and determine which you have set to use the desktop. As the default is NOT the desktop the local directory path must have been changed.
