Type about:config in url and Hit Enter key. Now tick into checkbox which says "this might void your warranty ".

Now search for browser.search.defaultenginename in search bar and wait for the result . You will see something like this 'google' in value field, which needs to be changed . So.double click on it which opens a textbox like popup. Type Yahoo into that and that's it. You are all set to go.

restart your browser and see the change.

Note : If you are in US then browser.search.defaultenginename (in the same search field) is set as Yahoo by default. if not then change it as steps mentioned above.

Note that browser.search.defaultenginename is no longer used to set the search engine. Support for using this pref to set the default search engine has been removed just like has been done with browser.newtab.url.

The default search engine setting is stored in the (compressed) search.json.mozlz4 file in Firefox 45 and later.
