Unknown music plays when I open a specific website

more options

This only happens when I go to one specific website. It is the University website where I teach so this is not supposed to be happening. None of my students have this problem and I don't get it in other browsers. I have refreshed and uninstalled Firefox but upon re-installation the music starts when I go to that specific page. It starts whether I use the bookmark or get to that page through the Universities' home page. It is some kind of glitchy disco music that has to be muted every time. I have tried Norton and Malwarebytes scans to find if it is a virus or pup.

What can I do to fix this, I have to go to this site daily.

Do you see a speaker icon on the Tab bar that shows that Firefox detects that sound play?

If you use a bookmark or use a link that has specific GET data appended to the link then try to navigate to that page starting with the main page or the sign in page in case this bookmark/link is currently broken.

You can check the Network Monitor (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) to see if there is a media file listed.

You can check the connection settings.

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

See "Firefox connection settings":

Thanks for the reply. I cleared all the bookmarks and history data but even when going in through the main page or typing in the address it still happens. The speaker does appear in the tab though.

I actually figured out the source of the music. It is a youtube video promotion for the university. The youtube link is on the main page and I don't click the link or hit play but the music starts; the video itself does not play. Others don't have this problem and it doesn't happen with IE or Chrome so it seems Firefox is activating the link - but only the music and not the video.

Thoughts anyone?

Glad to know it isn't a virus but still annoying.

This is not a cure, but should let the web page load without crashing.

Flash block {web link} Never be annoyed by a Flash animation again! Blocks Flash so it won't get in your way, but if you want to see it, just click on it
