Pictures sent to my pc frequently do not download. However, they can be seen on my iPhone and iPad. Help, please!

From various senders, frequently the pictures they send do not dowload to my pc. Only empty frames are seen. Sometimes numbers are seen at the bottom of the empty frames or a small icon(?) may be in the upper right corner of the frame. It seems to be only specific senders. The images download on my iPhone and iPad. I can find no setting in Thunderbird to address this problem. I think it is not on my end, but with the sender. Is there a fix I can relay to the sender?

Please confirm you are viewing using HTML and not Plain text. 'View' > 'Message Body As' > 'Original HTML'.

If the images have remote content: Thunderbird by default does not display remote images. This is a security feature designed to protect your privacy. This protects your privacy because spammers can verify your email address by detecting if you viewed a remote image in a message from them. Its also possible to embed an executable (malware) in images.

Read more info about Remote content, how to enable it for specific contacts or as a one off. You can also disable this feature although it is not recommended and you do so understanding the risk.

First, thank you for your quick response. I am using HTML. Download of remote content is blocked by default. That does not seem to be my problem. It is pictures within an email that are not visible. The frame of the picture is visible but empty. Toad-Hall said

These pictures that are not showing up are coming in as jpg attachments and can be seen by using a picture viewer. I am guessing it has to do with how they are being sent.
